How to Play Durak

Durak is a popular and strategic card game that originated in Russia and is now enjoyed by players all over the world. It is played with a standard 52-card deck and can accommodate 2-6 players. The objective of Durak is to be the first player to get rid of all of their cards, or to have the fewest cards remaining when the game ends.

To begin the game, choose a dealer who will shuffle and deal the cards clockwise. The dealer will deal six cards to each player, one at a time, and then place the remaining cards face down in the center of the table. The top card of the remaining deck will be turned over and placed next to the deck, this will be the “trump” suit for the round.

The player to the left of the dealer will start the game by placing a card of their choice on the table. The next player must play a card of either the same rank or the same suit as the card that was played previously. If they cannot play a card that matches, they must pick up all of the cards on the table and add them to their hand. The next player then takes their turn, and so on until all players have played a card or picked up the pile.

The goal of the attacking player is to get rid of all of their cards, while the other players try to defend and prevent them from doing so. Once a player has no cards left in their hand, they are out of the game. If all players successfully defend against the attacker’s card, the attacker is considered “durak” (the fool) and must pick up all of the cards on the table and add them to their hand. The role of attacker then passes to the next player.

If there are still cards remaining in the deck, the dealer will deal six more cards to each player and continue the game. If the deck runs out, the round is played to its conclusion and the player with the fewest cards remaining is the winner of the round.

In addition to regular cards, there are also special cards in Durak. Aces are higher than Kings, followed by Queens, Jacks, and down to 2 being the lowest. The trump suit is the highest suit in the game, followed by the same rank in the other suits. For example, if the trump suit is hearts, the highest card would be the Ace of Hearts, followed by the Ace of any other suit.

There are also two more special cards in the deck, the “Drummer” or “Six of Trumps,” which can be played at any time and acts as a wild card, and the “Fool” or “Black Joker,” which can be played to defend against any card. These special cards add an extra strategic element to the game.

Durak is a game of strategy and skill, and the more you play, the better you become at predicting your opponents’ moves and using your cards wisely. With its simple rules and exciting gameplay, Durak is a great game for players of all ages and skill levels. So grab a deck of cards and challenge your friends and family to a game of Durak today!
